General framework of the analysis: an individual dataset analysis followed by a multi-set analysis. The individual dataset analysis consisted of (i) the analysis of gene expression profiles (GEPs) of each dataset, including normalization, filtering and quality control check of each raw dataset, and the differential analysis to identify dataset-specific differentially expressed genes (DEGs), (ii) the Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) performed in the gene set space. The GSEA consisted in identifying enriched pathways from three gene sets of the MSigDB collection [29] (Hallmark gene sets, CP: KEGG gene sets and CP: Reactome gene sets); (iii) the multi-set analysis to assemble a study-independent gene signature, i.e., a list of genes specific to the quiescence state
